Box Score MATCH RESULTSFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University tennis team (10-0) continued its undefeated run by defeating NCAA Division I Butler (3-10), 9-0, Monday at the NSU Tennis Complex.
The day began with a clean sweep of doubles play. In the top flight
Sabrina Kierberg (Jr., Munich, Germany) and
Francesca Sella (Fr., Carpenedolo, Italy) defeated the team of Konstantina Adami and Kylie Haviland, 8-4. The scores became wider from there, with
Irina Constantinide(Jr., Galati, Romania) and
Petra Jurova (Jr., Bratislavia, Slovakia) defeating Kailey Eaton and Bailey Padgett, 8-3. In the final draw,
Alexandra Johansson (Sr., Sydney, Australia) and
Alex Kaeser (So., Woodstock, Ga.) defeated Anglea Qin and Rachel Sutton, 8-2.
During singles action, the Sharks made easy work on courts 1-4. In the top flight, Kierberg kept her momentum with a clean win over Haviland, 6-1, 6-1. On court two, Jurova fended off a strong fight in set two to defeat Padgett, 6-1, 6-4. Sella and Constantinide each won their singles matches in the middle of the draw, each by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
The biggest drama of the day came in the fifth and sixth sets, where the Sharks worked hard to earn the sweep of the Bulldogs. In the fifth draw, Johansson dropped the first set, 3-6 before evening the score with a 6-4 second set win.
Carlee Rizzolo (Jr., Livingston, N.J.) won her first set in the sixth draw, 6-1, before falling in the second, 4-6.
With the overall match decided, the two singles matches went to a tie-breaking third set. Both won by wide margins, Johansson at 10-1 and Rizzolo at 10-3.
After a grueling week, the Sharks will get some well-deserved rest before hosting No. 6 Lynn Monday at 2 p.m.
